Tea is the national drink of this multicultured country. Since Israel’s independence in 1948, there has been a continual immigration by Jewish people from allover the world. These newcomers have brought with them their tea-drinking customs from a multitude of regions. Traditional Russian brewing preferences such as zavarka and the use of the samovar contrast here with the ancient customs of Israel’s many Arab residents, who share their tea-making etiquette with that of their Middle Eastern neighbors such as the Syrians and the Lebanese. Meanwhile, the tea bag steeped in the teapot remains the favorite drink of thousands of tourist who visit the Holy Land each year.

TEA AND MILK
Filed under Health MuseDec 12Drinking black tea seems to lower a persons drinking risk of heart diseases and cancer. Some searches have suggested that milk may react with the polyphenol compounds in tea, thereby diminishing their health effects. Janet A.M. Kyle and colleagues at the Rowett Research Institute and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, studied this and found out that tea did indeed significantly increase blood levels of various antioxidant compounds and that the addition of milk did not lessen this effect.“Our results suggest that the formation of milk protein- polyphenol complexes does not compromise the antioxidant potential of the beverage,†said Kyle.
