Darjeeling First Flush

Indian Tea, Tea Comments Off

1stflush.jpgWith green hills, fresh clean air & temperate weather, Darjeeling is Paradise on Earth! the tea industry is dependent on the weather conditions for timley production, and any change in the pattern of rainfall can affect production. In winter, most of the tea gardens are dormant due to the cold weather conditions. The tea bushes are pruned immediately before the onset of winter. The month of March brings the first batch of showers and the tea bushes produce a new growth of leaf~ First Flush. First flush also refers to the season in which the leaf is picked. The tell-tale greenish look of this tea is indicative of its first flush characteristics. The tea is delicate, light and having a superb aromatic flavour. Darjeeling First Flush is a puckery young tea almost as light as any green but, unlike green. It is flamboyantly aromatic and the infused tea leaves show a pronounced lime greenish brightness. Spring Teas, as they are known , always fresh & flowery tasting. It is amazingly astringent and easily oversteeped. The First Flush term is ususlly used for Darjeeling Teas and the production is also limited to in small quantities during a brief period of the year. First Flush has an amazing fanfare amongst tea connoisseurs of the world.Â
