New Zealanders are the second largest consumers of tea per capita in the world. They prepare in the same way the British do. No doubt the British colonization of Australia and New Zealand influences the tea-drinking customs of these nations. The countries of the Commonwealth of Nations are the largest consumers of tea in the world.

    MAORI TEA
The Maoris, the aboriginal people of New Zealand, drink copious amounts of tea in a day. They use a brick tea chipping of large pieces of it. The tea chunks are placed in a huge pot filled with boiling water over a campfire.

Some Maoris, especially the women, experience bloating in the abdominal area. The abdominal bloating is referred to as a “ tea belly.”
